Thin-Gauge Members and Sheeting
Introduction
Staff members of ES-Consult have great experience in the area of thin gauge
members and sheeting.
This experience is concerned both with the solution of problems on a
purely theoretical level within the area of thin walled structures, and
with the calculation and design of thin walled structures on the basis
of Danish as well as international codes of practice.
Furthermore, staff members of ES-Consult have participated for several
years in the formulation of codes for thin walled structures in both
Danish and European societies.
Special Assignments
For firms within the area of thin walled structures staff members in ES-Consult
have set up EDB-programmes for calculation of load carrying capacity and
stiffness of mass produced thin walled structures.Examples
are data for effective cross section for corrugated plates and beams; and
load carrying capacity and stiffness of unsymmetrical beams elastically
restrained by the sheeting.
Furthermore staff members have dealt with stabilizing stressed skin
and stringer structures in buildings, where the sheeting and the purlins
are utilized to provide the overall stability of the building.
The firm has prepared the technical content of the brochures for certain
manufacturers. The brochures show diagrams and tables for the load carrying
capacity of the thin walled products from the manufacturers in question.
Staff members have participated in the project team that prepared the
Danish Code of Practice for the Structural Use of Cold-formed Steel and
Aluminium Members, 1st and 2nd editions.
ES-Consult is also involved in the preparation of the European Code
of Practice for Cold Formed Thin Gauge Members and Sheeting since the firm
is the National Technical Contact (NTC) in this work.
Through the years the firm has participated in several in-service courses
in the field of thin walled structures especially concerning the introduction
of the Danish and the European Code of Practice.
The firm has experience in the preparation of general technical aids
with the character of handbooks as two of the staff members are involved
in the handbook Teknisk Ståbi with responsibility for the section
dealing with steel structures.
