Design Review
Introduction
An important part of ES-Consult's activities has been Design Review of
major danish projects.
The review has typically been composed of a systematic investigation
of the projects - the specifications, drawings etc - to ensure coherence
and agreement in the project itself and coherence between the project and
the design basis. Furthermore the completeness of the project is verified
and the project is checked for deficiencies.
Depending on the character of the project it can be relevant to make
an assessment of the construction and structure of the project in a review
and in addition an assessment of the handling of the problem such as the
design of construction details.
Special Assignments
In connection with the construction of the stands in the New National Football
Stadium Parken in Copenhagen, a design review of the project of the steel structures
for the main roof has been carried out for Baltica Finans. The review resulted,
among other things, in a modification of the technical solution yielding
a better agreement with the owners requirements regarding structural efficiency
and safety.
For the Great Belt Company a design review has been carried out for
the East Bridge concerning the contractor's tender, the consultant's detailed
design and special services from institutes regarding wind tunnel tests,
geotechnical tests and hydraulic tests.
For the Danish State Railways a design review has been carried out concerning
the basic design of new bridges as well as the technical/legal tender documents
for new bridges. Furthermore a design review has been carried out for projects
of harbour works.
For
the Øresund Link, Coast to Coast, a design review of the technical
design basis, of the basic design and of the tender documents for the design
and construct tender has been carried out. Previous to this phase ES-Consult
gave consultancy to the client unravelling the use of Eurocodes as reference
norms for the technical design basis and advised him about the technical
conditions for the competition of the consulting services.
For the Øresund Link, Landworks, a review of the basic design
and the design requirements for the structures of Project Kastrup has been
carried out. Furthermore a design review of the specifications has been
carried out and a comparison between the technical design basis for the
Øresund landworks and Coast to Coast works has been performed
with the purpose of revealing possible inconsistencies between the two
projects.
